The Franklin County Democratic Party Endorses David Robinson

OHIO AFL-CIO Endorses David Robinson for State Representative, HD-21

On Friday, David Robinson, Democratic Candidate for Ohio’s 21st House District, received the endorsement of the Ohio AFL-CIO.

Robinson, the Senior Vice President of a local manufacturing company, has long been an advocate for business and labor working together to strengthen Ohio’s economy. "Ohio’s greatest strength is its people, and the AFL-CIO embodies this truth. That’s why I’m proud to accept their endorsement," Robinson said. The Ohio AFL-CIO joins the Franklin County Democratic Party in endorsing his candidacy for State Representative.

This endorsement highlights the issues at stake in a potential rematch with Republican incumbent Mike Duffey, who was narrowly elected in 2010 by a margin of only 377 votes. Duffey, with a background in public relations, has consistently taken anti-labor positions, while Robinson, a practicing businessman, supports labor rights as fundamental to our shared prosperity. The fight over Senate Bill 5 demonstrated their conflicting commitments. Duffey was a vocal supporter of SB5, while Robinson worked actively with the labor community to defeat Issue 2 last November. "You don’t succeed in business by demeaning others, but by bringing out the best in them, creating win-win outcomes. SB5 was a power-grab, and had nothing to do with good management or fairness—just the opposite. That’s why I fought it," Robinson said.

Walt Workman, Executive Secretary of the Central Ohio Labor Council commented, "David is the right man for the job. He's a people person. He's always got the working men and women first in mind. Most basically, he's a good person that I trust to do the right thing."

"David Robinson is on the right side of the economic issues that matter to all Ohioans: revival of manufacturing, fair trade, and investments in infrastructure. He believes, like we do, that trickle-down economic policies don't make our state or nation strong," said Dave Caldwell, President of the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and Assistant Director, District 1 United Steel Workers. "He shares our views that our government has a role in working together with business and labor to secure the same economic opportunities for our children that we have all enjoyed. Robinson knows that working together is the key to our future and that's why he'll be elected in November."

"I am honored to accept the endorsement of the Ohio AFL-CIO. Together, we’ll work to promote middle class values and fight to ensure that all Ohioans have a voice in building our common future," Robinson said.

The Ohio AFL-CIO joins together 650,000 union members, representing 1,600 local unions across the state from 48 different international unions. Their members include firefighters, factory workers, electricians, educators, plumbers, postal workers, miners and municipal employees.

Immigrant Citizens of Ohio Political Action Committee Endorses David Robinson

On Sunday, the Immigrant Citizens of Ohio Political Action Committee announced its endorsement of David Robinson, Democratic Candidate for Ohio's 21st House District.

It is our honor and pleasure to endorse David Robinson's candidacy for State Representative in the 21st Ohio House District because we believe strongly that he is the best candidate to represent us," said LeRoy Boikai, Treasurer of ICO-PAC. "We pledge our support to him during the primaries and when he wins, we look forward to continuing to work for his election in the fall.

Upon receiving the endorsement, David Robinson commented, "ICO-PAC is an important voice for New Americans in Ohio, and so I gratefully accept their endorsement of my candidacy for State Representative. I realize that with their endorsement comes the responsibility, if I am elected, to do all that I can to help the many members of their diverse communities realize the American Dream, as they understand it. This is a responsibility I embrace, knowing that I personally, and all of us collectively, can benefit from the reminder that we are a nation of immigrants, made stronger by the continued infusion of diverse peoples. E pluribus unum—Out of the many, one."

ICO-PAC was formed in order to build a vocal coalition from the multitude of immigrant citizen communities who have moved to Ohio over the last several decades. Many of the participating members of ICO-PAC are members of groups from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. The mission of ICO-PAC is to impact the political process by educating candidates and elected officials on the common concerns and needs of immigrant citizens.
